Protect Ponta is committed to making a difference to the lives of the animals and their owners in Southern Mozambique.
The project was started in November 2010 and was motivated by the absence of veterinary services or an SPCA in the area.
Visitors to the beautiful beaches of Ponta do Ouro and Malongane fell in love with what became known as the ‘Beach Dogs’.
When you booked a beach gazebo it became a banded deal as inevitably two or three beach dogs would adopt and hang out with you during your visit.
Holiday makers became attached to the dogs and they were a significant part of their stay.
Protect Ponta made sure that these 'Beach Dogs' were fed daily, vaccinated for rabies and sterilised.
Ponta do Ouro is situated within a Marine Reserve and in 2018 there was a massive drive by the authorities to remove the dogs from the beach.
Protect Ponta stepped in and the dogs were successfully re-homed.
The project has recognised the on-going need to educate and facilitate veterinary care for the local community dogs and cats and to help prevent any animal suffering.
